Our June Practice of the Month — McSurdy & Pavlow Orthodontists! – My Social Practice – Social Media Marketing for Dental & Dental Specialty Practices

Congratulations to our June Practice of the Month — McSurdy & Pavlow Orthodontists!

The team at McSurdy & Pavlow Orthodontics has found that social media is transforming their practice inside and out! It’s given their a team a chance to participate together in serving the community, learning about marketing, and creating a practice culture that patients love.

They say that patients are always talking about their latest Facebook posts when they visit. And when you’re always at the top of patients’ minds, they’re more likely to recommend you to family and friends.

We reached out to Jackie Stong, clinical coordinator for McSurdy & Pavlow Orthodontists, for some insight on which social media tools have been most effective in helping her team build an attractive social media presence and practice culture. Take something from what they’ve learned to apply in your own social media strategy!

Q&A With Jackie Stong, Clinical Coordinator

(Responses edited for length and clarity.)

What has been the biggest surprise of social media marketing for you?

“Our big ‘a-ha’ moment was when noticed how it started to make a difference in our office both internally and externally. In the office, our patients love using the Photo Booth and love the campaigns. Externally, the patient interaction was such a big surprise for us. We could not believe how people would respond to something so simple as asking them a simple question. For example, we did a post for the movie Beauty and the Beast and the amount of people that engaged on the post was incredible. Lastly, our patients love seeing the fun things that we do in our office on our Facebook page. They talk about it when they are here for their appointments.”

Among the things you’ve tried, which social media tools have been the most successful for you?

“When we boost a campaign and give away a prize. People love to win anything! We have given away gift cards, girl scout cookies, toothbrushes and many other prizes, and the interaction that people have when we are giving something away is awesome! We have seen a lot of success with the Girl Scout cookie give away and a ‘vote for your favorite kind of pumpkin cereal’ post we did.”

What feedback have you received about social media in your office?

“Patients love to interact with the Photo Booth while they are waiting. The parents love it too. We have also heard that a lot of patients like our funny videos on our page. My Social Practice will give us ideas for funny videos to try in our office. For example, the ‘brush your friends teeth’ video idea was great! One team member stood behind another team member and brushed her teeth. The engagement that we received from our patients was great. They were sharing the video, talking about it on Facebook and in our office.”

What has been the biggest challenge of social media marketing for you?

“Being consistent! Making sure that we are constantly posting fun things on our Facebook page for our fans and patients to see. I am so thankful for the Publisher Dashboard. It makes it easy for us to be able to post (and schedule posts) to our social media pages. We take a little bit of time at the end of the week to schedule the next week (and sometimes further) and then it is done. There are times that we schedule other fun photos during the week, but the main stuff is all taken care of.”

What advice would you give to a practice starting to build their online presence?

“I would say that if you don’t know what you are doing, you should contact My Social Practice to help you. They provide a lot of easy ways for a practice to post and publish to their site. Being able to reach out to our account manager Sarah for literally ANYTHING has been a huge help. She is always willing to help and is very resourceful. She makes social media a breeze. When I have a question, she gets back to me right away.”

We’ll be sure to pass along your feedback to Sarah! We know social media can be difficult—especially for those who are a little less computer-savvy—so our support team always goes the extra mile to make sure clients are taken care of!

So even if you have little or no digital marketing experience, there’s never been a better time to start building your dental practice’s online presence. Request a free demo of our services and we’d love to show you step-by-step how to do it!
