Instagram has introduced a trio of new ecommerce features today allowing viewers to directly shop video posts. I’m here to tell you all about it and give you some awesome tips for building your video following on instagram.
Listen to the Broadcast:
The additions arrive just in time for the holiday shopping season, . The other two features are: the ability to save items to a ‘Shopping Collection’ within the app, and a more seamless shopping experience for business profiles.
Shoppable videos are not available to all users (yet), The Verge reports, but only to certain brands that have opted into creating business profiles.
Select business accounts are currently piloting the feature allowing them to tag their video posts with stickers featuring a shopping bag icon that viewers can click to learn more or purchase.
Shoppable tags launched on Instagram Stories in September.
The new Shopping Collection within users’ profiles looks like an online store, (The Verge) .
Also business profiles on Instagram have undergone a redesign so that all shoppable posts are now organized under a new ‘Shop’ button.
Instagram currently counts 25 million business profiles, , and does not currently take a cut of any sales that are transacted via any of its ecommerce tools — though it does vend shoppable ads.

Instagram is a great platform for video marketing, yet no matter how great they are, your Instagram videos will not promote themselves.
Hashtags can help you to attract more followers, get more likes, increase your local visibility, and improve engagement with potential customers—all of which help to generate more leads for your business. More leads mean more conversions, and more conversions means more business. Hashtags are not just for your Instagram photo posts or Stories. You can (and should) use them for your videos as well.
Choosing the best hashtags to increase your videos’ visibility on Instagram can be difficult. In general, your hashtags need to be popular enough to cover terms being searched by Instagram users, but specific enough to reach your target customers.
Example: Music is a huge tag that is really value but #HipHopculture : #guitarsolo #singersongwriter #femalesinger #rockandroll #metalband #countrymusic are all more specific tags that help you find your audience.
If you incorporate your location into your hashtags, you’ll make your business or latest gig even more visible to people near you who care about coming to a show.
In my opinion, HGTV has the ability to show a more in depth look at what’s going on behind the scenes of making a video or taking those photos people see on the front face. I’m actually going to start doing this by example on my account : and we have special features being added to our music business account
What makes social media so engaging to people is that they can get an exclusive, behind the scenes look at the human side things. You can increase the number of Instagram video views by appealing to this desire in online viewers today. If you’re on the verge of releasing a new video or album, let your audience in on the secret! If you think your production process is aesthetically pleasing and uniquely appealing to your audience, record it and share it with your followers.
If you have a business profile, take a look at your Instagram engagement metrics to see which days and times of day are best for engaging with your followers. Posting your video at the right times really helps to gain more views on your video.
I recommend creating a clip for the front face of your instagram page that tells people to view the full video in HGTV and also include stories about launching the video to draw additional attention to your video.
It’s important to be putting out fresh content to you social media profiles and blog posts, but don’t be afraid to recycle and repurpose your content on your instagram page. Take smaller snippets from longer videos that you have and post them to Instagram with a relevant list of hashtags.
I recommend posting 2-3 times a day but at least once a day is the basic necessity of any account. It’s also important to answer every comment and visit the pages of your followers to reciprocate on the love.
