Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji grow close in new promos for It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

The premiere is just five days away; a new video teaser and stills have been released for tvN drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.

Kim Soo-hyun (The Producers) stars in the rom-com as Moon Kang-tae, a hospital caregiver who works in the psychiatric unit. Weary and burnt out by life’s ongoing responsibilities and challenges, it’s been long since fancies of romantic love were pushed away to the back of his mind.

Oh Jung-se (Stove League) is set to play his older brother, who’s been diagnosed with autism. The two brothers are largely on their own in life and the love they have for each other is offset somewhat by the difficulties Kim Soo-hyun has as Oh’s primary caretaker.

In counterpart, Seo Ye-ji (Lawless Attorney) plays children’s book writer Ko Moon-young. Since birth, she’s never quite understood what love is and struggles with relating to other people. As a result, she often acts superciliously.

Despite their natural inclinations, though, love starts to blossom as Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji’s relationship develops. The two find comfort and encouragement in one another, helping each other to learn and grow.

In the newly released teaser, we get a preview of scenes in the drama’s upcoming first episode and it starts with Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji having a conversation. Kim tells Seo, “You’re not crazy.” To which she asks, “Then which side do you think I am?” Kim responds, “You were just born that way.”

As they speak, we see Kim Soo-hyun looking up at Seo Ye-ji in a stairwell, who scatters a pile of money around her. Cut to Seo sitting on a throne and looking down at Kim through a window as she says, “It’s pretty. I want it.” It transitions to Kim Soo-hyun trying to block the road as Seo Ye-ji joyrides with a friend and a woman screams, “Kang-tae!” There is a brief shot of Seo Ye-ji collapsed on the ground before cutting away to Oh Jung-se, who is upset. As we see this, Seo speaks in voice-over: “It’s not staying away, it’s more like running away.”

It cuts to a text screen, which reads: “They may appear a little different from you.” In a sequence of shots, we see Kim Soo-hyun and Oh Jung-se’s loving relationship as brothers. The two ride a bus together and walk home hand-in-hand. Kim hugs Oh and warmly says, “Hyung, I don’t need a house, a car, or money.” A second text screen appears afterwards, with the words: “And it may make you lonely sometimes.”

Cut to Seo Ye-ji who brushes Kim Soo-hyun’s hair away from his forehead as she says, “You want to receive affection, I can see it.” And he blinks in response. She continues, “Moon Kang-tae, give him to me.” The teaser comes to an end with a shot of Kim Soo-hyun sitting with Seo Ye-ji at a convenience store.

Written by Jo Yong (Jugglers) and directed by PD Park Shin-woo (Boyfriend), tvN’s It’s Okay to Not Be Okay will be airing on weekends and premieres this Saturday on June 20.
