Web Design With Search Engine Optimization for the Win!

Web Design With Search Engine Optimization for the Win!

Every business owner wants their website to rank higher in search engines than the competition. We want to be at the top of the Google Local Pack Map. We want to be in the top organic search spots on Google.

And everyone wants it to happen, like, yesterday.

Getting listed on Google is not that easy, but it’s not impossible… with the right SEO.

The Design of Your Competition’s Website

You need to know the field you’re competing in, and you need to know it really well. The best place to start is by looking at competitor websites that are ranking really well in your industry.

What are they doing that you’re not?

Viewing competitor websites that appear at the top of search results shows you how the search engine is indexing and ranking, and the criteria it’s using.

The Design of Your Own Website

Now take a look at your website like a visitor. As you’re browsing your own site, keep in the back of your mind what you just learned from a competitor website. How does yours compare?

Does your website load fast? Since Google has put mobile first, your site needs to load quickly for the mobile user. People have a need for speed and will leave a site that takes too long to load.

Do you have enough content? Google loves content. Google loves blog posts. Google loves fresh content that is new and popular with your website visitors.

Do you have inbound and outbound links? Google looks at your linking strategy when ranking your site. Make sure you are linking to authority sites and that you have quality links pointing to your website. This will help you achieve a higher page rank.

Do you have too many graphics? A graphically intense site can slow load times down. Depending on the kind of graphics your are using, your site might not be visually appealing. Sometimes less is more and a little white space makes things less cluttered.

Are you using proper tags? Make sure you have good title tags. Make sure every image has an alt tag. Use proper header tags (H1-H6) in the hierarchy of your content. Make sure your home page title is not called “HOME” (there are a million pages called HOME on the Internet!).

Did you add a unique description meta to each page? This tag is still used by Google and is sometimes seen in search results below the link title. Make sure you add a description tag that is unique to each specific web page on your site.

Search Engine Optimization for the Win!

In truth, SEO goes much deeper and search engines are very complex.

However, a few simple optimization techniques will help your site start to improve its rank on Google.
