SEOblog Interview: Los Angeles SEO Expert Nick Ryan from Big Bang Marketing Inc. | SEOblog.com

We’re excited to have interviewed Los Angeles SEO expert Nick Ryan from Big Bang Marketing Inc. for the next installment of our Featured SEO Expert Series!

Big Bang Marketing Inc. is one of SEOblog’s Top SEO companies in Los Angeles.

Big Bang Marketing Inc. is a premier lead generation agency. They consider themselves more of a lead provider, over a standard SEO firm, because they believe that their clients turn to them to grow their businesses. Instead of selling SEO, social media, paid search or traditional marketing campaigns, they partner with business owners in an effort to help increase their sales and profits and decrease their overhead. They work primarily with law firms, but they also assist medial practices, eCommerce companies and local business owners.

Nick Ryan is a lead SEO/SEM development manager for Big Bang Marketing. He focuses on its law firm and dental divisions as well as assist with the SEO agency’s eCommerce and merchant platforms. He designs sites, works on content, as well as off-page and on-page SEO. Most of all, he works with AdWords and paid search campaigns.

What would you say is unique and/or challenging about the LA SEO industry?

“SEO, in our opinion, is an industry that has been over saturated for the last decade. However, our biggest “beef” with search engine optimization companies are the way they continue to over promise and almost “con” business owners with false statements and false analytics. Most of our clients tell us, and even our sales reps who have come to work for us from other agencies, that the majority of SEO agencies out there pitch online marketing as the BEST way to get new clients. However, months later when the client hasn’t received a single new paying customer the same SEO firm who sold them how “wonderful” digital marketing is to grow their business, ends up back peddling and simply tries to claim that they achieved some level of SERPs ranking and therefore they have fulfilled their contractual obligation and essentially stuffs a bill payment down the client throat. We do not believe in this model. So, breaking through this nonsense is a bit tough. However, we believe we have done well by simply allowing clients to try us without a commitment on their end. Basically, trust is somewhat gone in this industry and we cannot blame business owners one bit.”

How does your agency stand out in a crowded market like Southern California?

“We believe we not only stand out in Southern California, but nationwide. We are truly a results driven SEO agency. We allow clients to utilize our monthly SEO marketing services without a contract, commitment, or payment. If they like the leads they receive from our monthly SEO work they can hire us, if not, they received a free month of marketing at no cost to them.”

Can you share a success story from a local SEO campaign centered around the LA area?

“We manage a major DUI Law Firm website, https://duidefenderlosangeles.com/, as you know well DUI keywords tend to run very high from a cost-per-click (CPC) standpoint. Paid search budgets can swell upwards of 10 plus thousand dollars per month. Considering this law firm is in Los Angeles, their budget would be extremely high. This client continues to rank in the top three organic and map sections year after year. Most importantly they receive dozens of new cases per month from our work.”

What is the best advice you ever received in business?

“Be blunt, be overly honest and leave emotion at the door. It’s better to tell a client how it is and to be overly honest, then to paint a picture that does not exist. Too many marketing agencies want to rush to sign up clients so they offer crazy pricing deals and over-promise what they can provide a customer. At the end of the day, the client never makes any money from their marketing and the agency loses a customer and even worse, gets a bad review. Just level with your clients. Go off of mathematical data, don’t go off of fluff. Show them what their competitors are doing and let them decide if they want to compete.”

What do you think is the most important quality that makes an agency truly great?

“Honesty, hard work and thinking outside of the box.”

Any predictions for the future of SEO?

“No one has a crystal ball, no one can predict the future of SEO (in our opinion) because we are at the mercy of two big variables. One, what search engines will do and two, how customers and clients choose to look for providers of goods and services. We believe, instead of trying to predict the future of search engine optimization, it’s more beneficial to watch how society interacts with the web and the acquisition of goods and services. A solid marketing agency shouldn’t ‘pigeon hole’ themselves as simple SEO firm but instead, a lead generation agency. Follow the money.”

What is your reaction when you hear that “SEO is dying”?

“People will always search for information, goods and services. It’s not that SEO is dying it’s that, again in our opinion, companies that sell SEO are not understanding how they can benefit their clients. You cannot sit back and become complacent, or become rigged and simply expect your clients to accept the same old same old from your services. SEO firms NEED to stay on their toes and keep figuring out NEW ways to drive their clients quality leads.”

What do you think is the most important contributor to keeping clients happy?

“Results, PERIOD. Clients care about making money and the only way they can achieve that goal is through the acquisition of new quality leads. Money talks and [explicit] walks.”
