Award-winning actress Seo Hyun-jin has been cast for the lead role in the upcoming SBS series Why Oh Soo-jae?.
Han Jung-hwan, the CEO of Studio S, a global media and entertainment family company of SBS that provides in-house drama production, revealed the casting news through an introduction showcase of the network’s 2021 lineup, which includes new dramas and entertainment and cultural shows. The platform was discussed via YouTube on December 10.
CEO Han also explained what Why Oh Soo-jae? is about. “It is a detailed melodrama about the romance [between] a law school student and a professor. It will be the return of ‘Romance Queen’ Seo Hyun-jin. [She will] play the role of the heroine Oh Soo-jae, while the actor who will portray the younger, male lead Youn Ha-nam is still a secret,” he said.
The executive also shared more details about the character Oh Soo-jae and how Seo Hyun-jin ended up deciding to take on the role. “Seo Hyun-jin will play a professor in the drama. [Oh Soo-jae] is a very eccentric and despicable character. When I asked Seo Hyun-jin why she wanted to do this drama, she said, ‘I want to do it because [Soo-jae] is a bad and mean [character].’ She will be making a 180-degree transformation into a character that is different from what she has been doing so far,” he added.
The actress is best known for her roles in the television dramas Another Miss Oh (2016), Dr. Romantic (2017), Temperature of Love (2017), and The Beauty Inside (2018). Following her last appearances in the series Black Dog (2019–2020) and Record of Youth (2020), recent reports also revealed that she received a casting offer for a starring role in a new drama by The King Eternal Monarch’s co-director.
Why Oh Soo-jae? will be helmed by Park Soo-jin and written by Kim Ji-eun.
